2007-2008 Hutchinson Leadership Institute

"Building Leaders & Building Community"

The Hutchinson Area Chamber of Commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureau is now accepting applications for the 2007-2008 Hutchinson Leadership Institute. The Institute is a comprehensive program designed to build leaders and build community. Through classroom experiences, hands-on activities, and assessment tools, the Institute provides participants an opportunity to turn knowledge into action.

The program offers ALL participants an opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills, increase their awareness of local issues, and network with other community leaders.

Program space is limited - only 30 applicants will be selected! Deadline to apply is August 24, 2007. Tuition (includes materials, meals, & transportation) is $450 for Chamber CVB members and $650 for non-members. Call the Chamber CVB at 320-234-0789 for more information or to register.

2007-2008 Tentative Schedule of Sessions

September 20, 2007: Personal Leadership

Completion & analysis of the DiSC personality profile. Self-esteem in leadership with Sisters Kay O'Neil & Michelle Meyers.

September 21, 2007: Team Leadership

Participation in the Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center Challenge Course and a session on Building Effective Teams. Assignment of Leadership reading material.

October 18, 2007: Hutchinson: Past, Present, & Future

Historic tour of Hutchinson with Jim Fahey. Presentation by & discussion with city representatives and officials. Visioning exercise.

November 15, 2007: Leadership Book Reports

Creative presentations on the insights learned from assigned Leadership reading material.

December 13, 2007: Ethics in Leadership

Panel discussion on ethics in leadership with various community leaders.

January 17, 2008: Leadership in Difficult Times

Workshops on Intercultural Understanding, Managing Change, and Decision Making.

February 17, 2008: Civic Leadership

Introduction to Civic Leadership. Completion & analysis of the Zobias Card Sort. First ever non-profit organization Open House (for Institute participants and public).

March 13 or 20, 2008: Political Leadership

Trip to the Minnesota State Capitol, complete with tours, conversations with representatives, and observation of polital sessions.

April 17, 2008: Effective Leadership

Conversation on Conflict Resolution. Workshops on Effective Communication and Leading Meetings. Group Goal Setting Exercise.

May 15, 2008: Community Plug-In Day & Closing Session

Hands-on day where participants physically get involved with projects in the community. Closing session with sponsors and guests.

**The Hutchinson Area Chamber of Commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureau reserves the right to make appropriate topic and date changes if deemed necessary. Notices to participants & sponsors will be sent via email no later than 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time.
